Ledger® Live: Login

A concise presentation guide — secure login flows, best practices, and troubleshooting (for presentations & documentation).

Overview

What is Ledger Live?

Ledger Live is the official desktop and mobile companion app for Ledger hardware wallets. It provides a secure interface to manage accounts, send and receive assets, and monitor your portfolio without exposing private keys to the internet.

Why login matters

“Login” in the Ledger ecosystem is less about an email + password and more about securely connecting your physical device (Nano family, Stax, Flex) to the Ledger Live app and confirming actions on-device. This design minimizes credential theft risk by keeping private keys offline.

Login flow (step-by-step)

1. Install Ledger Live

Download only from the official site

Always download Ledger Live directly from the official Ledger website. This prevents counterfeit or malicious installers that mimic the app. Ledger provides official signatures and checks to verify installers.

2. Connect your device

Open Ledger Live, connect your Ledger hardware via USB (or Bluetooth for supported devices), then unlock the device using your PIN. Ledger Live detects the device and lists accounts.

3. Approve operations on-device

Ledger Live will request you to approve transactions or account actions by pressing buttons on the physical device. This is the final confirmation and the main security control: operations cannot proceed without on-device approval.

Security best practices

Never reveal your recovery phrase

Ledger will never ask for your 24-word recovery phrase in the app, by email, or by phone. If any interface requests it, treat it as a scam and disconnect immediately.

Verify downloads and signatures

Use Ledger’s published checksums or signature verification pages when available. Keep Ledger Live updated — the app auto-checks updates against Ledger’s public key to ensure authenticity.

Phishing & fake apps

Attackers may distribute fake installers or spoofed sites. Cross-check domains (ledger.com), confirm official app-store listings for mobile, and consult Ledger Support for verification steps if in doubt.

Troubleshooting & common issues

Device not detected

Try a different USB cable, ensure the device screen is unlocked, and confirm you’re using an official Ledger Live installer. For Bluetooth devices, check OS Bluetooth permissions.

Forgot PIN / restore access

If you forget your PIN, you can reset the device and restore accounts from your recovery phrase. If you lost your recovery phrase, recovery options are limited — Ledger Recover offers recovery services for enrolled users but requires prior setup.

Visual assets

Use device photos and Ledger Live screenshots. When demonstrating login flows, highlight the on-device approval step — that’s the core security signal users must understand.
